As the popularity of “Downton Abbey” continues, the desire for Edwardian Dresses, post war and now Deco dresses are in demand. “Titanic” dresses are in constant demand for me so we are getting a bit of a wardrobe of them. Inspired by a collection in Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the dress, hat, and bag is our newest pattern to La Petite Belle Patterns. The sample is dated 1910. My goal was to make the hat filled with Sweet Peas as this one was, but the challenge was great. I have opted to cover the hat with small punched flowers of multi colors and get us really close to the original. This kit comes with a porcelain dress form the pattern and all of the luscious supplies.
1":1' scale.

The 1880's in Fashion
Complete doll kits is sold out. Dressmakers kit ONLY.
Welcome to 1880, where the garments fit close to the figure and cut narrowly to accentuate a thin silhouette. The stand up lace collar with lace jabot adorns the top of a long jacket and vest that extend below the hips. Sleeves are long and tight. Foundation skirts if not tight to the body tied behind the knees, as this is to draw all the fullness to the rear. Draped apron front and back finish out the iconic look. The pleated or ruffled hem gathers to the back and flare in a slight train. Her jewelry is impeccable with a gold broach and jewel and pearl earrings. The accenting hat ties under the chin and simply decorated. With her leather belt bag and velvet muff, she is ready for a day of strolling in the park.

Gibson Girl Ball Gown w/ Porcelain Dress Form
This mode is very simple in look and yet, has many ways to embellish. Use your imagination. Though the gown appears quite plain in appearance, the pattern can be challenging. The mannequin is porcelain with a 14K gold fired neck finial. Both the pattern and the mannequin are created for you by IGMA Artisan Kathi R. Mendenhall. The gown is created from Orchid silk taffeta, and is complimented by a tightly fitted bodice of matching orchid silk brocade. Dress was inspired by Tom Tierney Gibson Girl paper doll, but the detailed cape came directly from the fashion pages of the time. The shoulders are richly "embroidered" with silk trim buds and bows. The short fluted cape is created in the same orchid silk, but with an eye-popping lining of deep olive green which blends perfectly with the silk trim. To complete the look we've added a beautiful pearl and amethyst necklace dropped from a perfectly sized silk cord. The purse just completes the ensemble.
